Trance

A Trance is an altered state of consciousness characterized by reduced awareness of the external environment, heightened focus, and changes in perception, emotion, or responsiveness. Trance states may occur naturally, through meditation, hypnosis, ritual practices, music, or intense concentration. In Paranormal and spiritual traditions, trance states are often associated with Spirit communication, visions, Channeling, or mystical experiences.

Historical Context

Trance practices have existed throughout human history in religious, shamanic, and ceremonial traditions worldwide. Ancient shamans and spiritual leaders used rhythmic drumming, chanting, fasting, or dance to enter trance states believed to allow communication with Spirits or the divine. During the 18th and 19th centuries, trance states became subjects of scientific and psychological study through hypnosis and mesmerism. Spiritualist mediums in the 19th century frequently entered trance states during Séances to allegedly communicate with Spirits.
