Bigfoot

Bigfoot is a bulky, hair covered, humanoid which appears to possess both human and ape-like characteristics of an unknown species of large bipedal ape-like creature believed to live in forests, jungles and remote areas around the world. The creature has different names in different parts of the world such as the Yowie in Australia, the Yeti in Tibet and the Alma in central Asia. The term Bigfoot or Sasquatch is often used either to refer to the phenomenon as a whole or to refer to North American sightings of the creature.

Sightings And Evidence
The Bigfoot phenomenon has one of the largest followings in cryptozoology with several organisations and research teams active in the United States and other parts of the world. Expeditions in to the forests of North America in search of evidence are commonplace. Alleged Bigfoot tracks, photographs, video footage and even hair samples crop up on a regular basis however no body had yet been found. Reports of Bigfoot sightings also occur quite frequently including accounts of strange whistling sounds, unidentified low-frequency growls and a feeling of a presence in the woods. Loggers and people who live in remote areas report encountering the creatures outside their homes, hunters are another source of reported sightings.

Characteristics
Reports of the physical characteristics of the creature are varied and range from a 10-12ft tall bipedal ape with dark colored hair to a shorter human-like figure more akin to prehistoric man. Sightings tend to suggest the creature to be shy and wary of human contact, some believe the beast to exhibit an almost supernatural ability to hide itself from sight.

Patterson-Gimlin Film
The most famous piece of video evidence comes in the form of footage shot by Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin at a place called Bluff Creek in 1967. In it the men filmed an apparent Bigfoot walking across the shot, glancing back at them and then disappearing in to nearby trees. The footage has been extensively analysed and scrutinized over the years, some believe it to be a hoax while others consider it to be the single most important piece of cryptozoological evidence ever. To date the footage has never been satisfactorily debunked.
